Code of Conduct

The purpose of a Model United Nation’s program is to model the best practices of collaboration, cooperation and constructive debate irrespective of an individual’s race, gender, political or sexual orientation, age, or nationality. To that end, all Smart Diplomats participants agree to adhere to the following Code of Conduct.

1. This Code of Conduct applies to the whole Conference event, including the opening and closing ceremony, committee sessions, social events or any other event or gathering organized by SDMUN.
2. This Code of Conduct applies to all persons participating in SDMUN, including all persons attending or involved in any form in SDMUN.
3. Respectful spoken and written language at all times (no flaming or personal attacks on individual or country positions). Personal attacks, all kinds of harassment and disparagement of individual and country positions are not acceptable.
4. Constructive and positive chat in all social media outlets.
5. Courteous behavior towards the secretariat members, chairs and other delegates
6. No use of ‘thumbs down’ or ‘frown faces’ in Adobe Connect, unless prompted to do so by the Chair in response to audibility checks
7. No use of music or other audio recordings during debate or lobbying sessions.
8. No use of graphics (photos, clip art, drawings) at any time unless approved in advance by the chairs.
9. Timely communication with fellow delegates.
10. All chat, including private chat between delegates, is archived and can be made available to the SDMUN secretariat on request.
11. Recorded sessions, as well as associated materials used for publicity and orientations, are the property of SDMUN, and can only be used for the purposes for which they were intended.
12. In an online conference, delegates must use the committee and the country name to identify themselves. In a physical conference, they must use their placard.
13. Every delegate must wear formal clothes during the debate. Any delegate who wears an inappropriate dress will be asked to leave the conference and return properly dressed.
14. It is not appropriate for delegates, chairs and the secretariat to display and national symbols such as flags, emblems, pins, crests etc. However, UN symbols are in order.
15. The use of mobile phones is in order as long as it does not become disruptive.
16. The use of laptops and browsing the Internet is permitted.
17. Pre-written working papers, draft resolutions or resolutions, plagiarism and falsification of information are not permitted
18. Referencing is needed if any kind of reproduced materials are used, including sentences, paragraphs, images, graphics, tables, statistics, charts, photographs and borrowed ideas and thoughts.
19. Failure to abide by the Code of Conduct will result in a warning and possible suspension from SDMUN.
