Smart Diplomats Deputy Secretaries General positions are responsible for overseeing one particular aspect of the community. They are in effect the second in command and are leaders for their project team.
This is a valuable and unique opportunity to work in a challenging and rewarding role while organizing a MUN conference at Istanbul, Turkiye. SD-MUN is a Model United Nations Conference that offers the most accurate simulation of the United Nations in never before offered committees in SDMUN. Delegates will have an unparalleled opportunity to engage in dynamic discussions of highly relevant topics on the real UN Agenda, in a Model UN setting that accurately mirrors how UN meetings are conducted.
The conference will take place in January 2024. The Secretariat receives a valuable career development opportunity as they help organize a conference at Istanbul, Turkiye and gain a practical understanding of the workings of the United Nations (SD-MUN) as part of a diverse, motivated international team.
Deputy Secretary General Positions
DSG for Academics
The USG of Chairs & Academics has as his biggest priority the academic renoun and excellence of the conference. Piecing together amazing teams of dedicated and capable chairs , he is the mind behind the committees, their topics, their debates and their rules. He also plans, organizes, debates, interviews, convinces, teaches, learns, and listens, all in one neat package.
As the middle man between the Secretariat and the committee chairs, DSG Academics will ensure the cultivation of most fruitful relationships and academic exchanges with some of the MUN community’s most enthusiastic debaters and moderators. Through his work, the conference shall bring its participants as close as possible to the essence of MUN: a model
Explain the delegates (e.g. in zoom meetings) how to write documents (including position papers and resolutions) and the RoP
Be familiar with the RoP and review them
Guide the chairs on how they moderate debates
Review the studyguides; assist chairs reviewing the position papers
Assist the chairs reviewing the delegates position papers.
Be in touch with the delegates, especially regarding the answering of their questions.
To act as the primary point of contact for SDMUN enquiries and activities
To oversee the planning, setup, execution and evaluation of their respective projects.
To provide leadership and mentoring with their officers to create the best outcomes for their projects.
To work in close collaboration with the SGs
Assist the Secretary Generals in all aspects of their duties.
Requirements :
To apply for this role, you must have the following:
Have previous experience of Model UN debates
Have a strong working knowledge of rules of procedure
Have previous leadership experience in the community, preferably within SDMUN
Who they report to: They will directly report to the Secretary-General.
This position requires a lively person who has a strong understanding and constant use of social media platforms. Our online platforms are the beating heart of spreading our message across the world. It helps us tell everyone the opinions of young people from different regions about issues that affect them and how they feel about them.
In 2020/2021, the blog and other press content are going to grow to be bigger than ever, and the person who takes on this role will have a fundamental role in facilitating our content to become respected in the field. This position is a perfect fit for anyone who wants to improve their writing skills or is considering a career in journalism.
It is expected that candidates have the following experience.
Make social media posts with pictures to promote our debates and other activities.
Maintenance of social media content on twitter, instagram and facebook.
Work with the Social Media Officer,Editor in Chief, Graphics and Design Officer, Video Content Officer to create visual content for our website, twitter, instagram and facebook.
Work with fellow DSG's where required on blog content from their programs and teams

Requirements :
It is expected that candidates have the following experience.
Has good academic standing
Has a strong ability to work with a variety of individuals in different contexts
A proven track record of reliability to do work independently
Have previous leadership experience in the community.
NOTE: As this role has little to do with MUN, no prior MUN experience is required. However, it may be considered beneficial depending on the candidate.
Have a strong online presence and experience with facebook, twitter and instagram - or willing to learn
Who they report to: They will directly report to the Secretary-General.
MUN experience required, preferably as staff or in academic roles, preferably after 2021.
Strong Academic background or notable achievements are an advantage.
Must be 18 or older.
Must have outstanding academic research, writing, editing, and analytical skills.
Must demonstrate a strong track record in producing high-quality academic material in a timely manner.
Must demonstrate a proven track record of success in dynamic, fast-paced working environments.
Must possess high cultural sensitivity, and ability to work in international teams.
Must be excellent in written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
Must be highly proficient in written and spoken English and research and evaluation.
Must be highly knowledgeable about and greatly interested in the topics to be discussed at SD-MUN.

General Officers
Social Media Officer
Duties :
Compose long-term and short-term social media posting plans.
Tracks analytics
Creates posting timeline
Answers all questions and queries
Research and keep up with the latest trends
Build and increase followers
Post and engage on LinkedIn
Hosting IGTV and live events, activities, interactive talk shows, and interviews of various prominent, and experienced students and mentors
Post unique stories and publish stories regularly by utilizing all digital features available via social media of what the organisation is up to and keeping in mind the marketing and promotional strategies
Maintain communications with stakeholders, followers, students, mentors, and engage with relevant accounts.
Who they report to: You will report directly to the DSG Marketing, you will indirectly report to the Secretary-General.
The role of editor-in-chief is an exciting position within SDMUN and counts as one of the general officer positions within our program. They will help DSG of Marketing in developing fascinating articles of matters of interest to SDMUN and students across the world. They will also be invited to prepare a series of articles on a particular position of interest. This role is perfect for those who love to write and are considering a future in journalism.
Duties :
Assist with the promotion, preparation and publication of website posts
Find delegates to write content for the website and social media
Proofread and edit content before publication
Regularly write for the website and social media.
Requirements :

We need 100s of experienced former MUN delegates and others with Model UN experience to help organize and run our conferences. Only the best and most passionate MUN experts are selected for their research and organizational skills, expertise in development of preparation materials, and ability to serve as conference staff. Volunteers perform various duties as USGs, Committee Directors, Assistant Directors, or Information Services staff.
Who Volunteer
Undergraduate students, graduate students, and people with degrees. Applications are welcome from all fields of study.
Individuals with MUN experience (preferred) and applicants with extraordinary substantive or logistical knowledge from other MUNs.
Delegates and those who have served as MUN Chairs at any MUN conferences. These positions provide valuable skills and insights that help make good candidates for our volunteer positions.
Anyone who is passionate about sharing the SDMUN experience with others. There are no particular references required, no special invitations to apply, and no need to have mentioned interest to current volunteer staff members.
